The Great Purge
Senior Russian officer corps eviscerated in Ukraine
If Vladimir Putin’s real goal in Ukraine was to purge his senior officer corps a la Stalin in the 1930s, his special military operation there has proven a most effective way to do it…
Russia has just lost its TWELFTH general officer in Ukraine — in addition to almost FIFTY colonels.
Not exactly good ol’ Uncle Joe numbers, but good enough to produce the same hobbling effect, something to embrace on conventional terms, but fear if it prompts the Kremlin to rely more exclusively on its nuclear deterrent.

I think you are on to something. Sadly most people do not have the ability or understanding of history to see just how right you probably are.
Good for junior officers - potential for advancement (if they survive the wrath of the Ukrainians.)
